AI Second Brain Starter Kit
Your AI agents forget everything. This is the fix. Every new chat starts from zero. Every tool's built-in "memory" is a black box you can't search, can't audit, and can't take with you. Meanwhile the good stuff — the decisions, the fixes, the workflows your agents figure out — evaporates when the session ends.
The AI Second Brain Starter Kit is the system I use to run one Obsidian vault as the shared brain across all my AI agents. It's not a course and it's not theory: it's the actual working structure, templates, and operating rules, packaged so you can be running it in about 30 minutes.
How it works: the vault is plain Markdown files. You read and write it in Obsidian. Your agents read and write the same files over MCP. One boot file (VAULT-INDEX.md) orients every session — human or AI — and a single priorities queue means no agent ever has to guess what matters. Sessions stop starting from zero because every session starts by reading what the last ones learned.
Who it's for
- You use one or more AI agents (coding assistants, chat agents, automations) and you're tired of re-explaining your projects every session
- You already use Obsidian — or want notes you actually own, in plain text, with no lock-in
- You want a system with rules that survive contact with real work, not a 400-folder taxonomy
Who it's not for
- You want a hosted app or a done-for-you service — this is files and a method
- You don't use AI agents at all (the vault works solo, but the agent connection is half the value)
Requirements
- Obsidian (free). The vault also opens in any Markdown editor.
- For agent access: any MCP-capable agent and a free, open-source filesystem MCP server. The guide covers the setup pattern for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
One purchase, yours forever. Plain Markdown means no subscription, no platform risk, and no migration if you ever change tools — the brain is just files.
What’s inside
- A complete pre-built starter vault — the full folder system (Inbox, System, Daily Notes, Projects, Decisions, Code Snippets, Bugs & Fixes, Prompts, Templates), with a short explainer in every folder
- VAULT-INDEX.md — the boot file / rulebook every agent reads first, ready to customize
- Active Priorities.md — the single open-work queue across all projects and agents
- 6 note templates — Project Note, Decision Record, Daily Note, Bug and Fix, Prompt, and Agent Session (the log your agent fills in after each work session)
- The Setup Guide (~2,100 words): the 3 principles that make the system stick (vault-is-the-brain, index-first, capture-now/file-weekly), the 30-minute Obsidian setup, and the weekly review that keeps the inbox at zero
- Connecting an AI agent over MCP — the filesystem-server + gateway pattern, with config examples, the exact standing-orders block to give your agent, and the security rules (no raw secrets in notes, scoped server access, private-network-only endpoints)
